1 July 2008

This is what I wrote for the home page of this website for the BIG DAY:

"Happy 150th Birthday Natural Selection!!

It is currently the 1st of July 2008 - the 150th anniversary of the first public announcement of the theory of natural selection:- perhaps the most powerful idea in the entire history of human thought! Karen James, who writes for the Beagle Project Blog, asked me (George Beccaloni) to write an essay for her blog to commemorate this momentous occasion. This I did as my personal contribution to the (regrettably rather paltry!) worldwide anniversary celebrations. Please click here to read it.

I hope you like it, and if you do, then please feel free to distribute the pdf to all and sundry!"

The article I wrote got around 1000 hits in the first 24 hours and it also led to The Bantam Charitable Trust (trustees Michele and Chris Kohler) giving the Wallace Fund a generous donation of £1500. Thanks very much indeed Michele and Chris, and thanks also to Karen for suggesting that I wrote the post!
