MANAUS: START OF MY TRIP UP THE RIO NEGRO

Only 9 days since leaving UK but much has already happened.

I have had a very busy four days in Manaus. I only received the framed images of Wallace's fish and palm drawings I sent over from the UK from customs two hours before the formal opening of the show (ARW`s specimens were delayed by their ancestors - and so had to go on the Helen!!)- I had ten assistants to organise and work to the right quality standards - I had to be forceful, it was a very hectic time - But we made it.

February 2008

Up until now I have been exploring Wallace material in the collections of Cambridge University Zoology Museum, the Entomology Collection at The National Museum of Wales, Wallace's palm drawings at the Linnean Society of London, and his fish drawings at the Natural History Museum, London. Other activities relate to organising my visits to the Rio Negro and Borneo. I have spent much productive time talking to George Beccaloni about all aspects of ARW and how we can promote the project to give ARW a much higher public profile.
